Available Ports
Port allocation conventions to avoid conflicts across repositories and branches.
It is essential to have a clear understanding of the available ports to avoid conflicts and ensure efficient usage.
First Port
The first port number that can be used for container/application building is 1000.
Repository Port Spaces
Each repository has ten different port spaces that can be used to build containers/applications with different branches. For example, GRM repository can use ports 1001-1010, Refina repository can use ports 1011-1020, and so on.
Port Multiples between Repositories
There are port multiples of ten between repositories. For example, if GRM uses ports 1001-1010, the next repository Refina can use ports 1011-1020.
Spreadsheet for Port Allocation
To make it easier for the product team to do testing, it is necessary to write the allocated ports on each project's spreadsheet.
Example of allocated ports in SMI GRM's spreadsheet:
| Branch Name | Port Number | Status |
|---|---|---|
| GRM Dev | 1001 | Active |
| GRM Feature 1 | 1002 | Active |
| GRM Feature 2 | 1003 | Inactive |
| GRM Feature 3 | 1004 | Active |
| GRM Feature 4 | 1005 | Active |
In the above table, the GRM repository is using ports 1001-1005 for different branches. The Dev branch is marked as active, and every other branch is marked as either active or inactive based on their usage. The status of the unused branches is updated to 'Inactive,' and containers created using these branches are removed. This table helps in maintaining an overview of the allocated ports and their usage for each project.
